Dear TLS Campus Community,
“Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20.
This weekend marks a very special occasion, one of the biggest occasions that will occur in my lifetime. My partner and I are getting married! The path of a lifetime is marked by milestones, special occasions and causes for celebrations. I have been truly blessed that in my lifetime so far, I have had countless occasions to celebrate. Birthdays, graduations, the weddings of friends and family, the birth of my niece. My upcoming wedding will be one of the biggest celebrations in my lifetime so far! I thank God that He has blessed me with special friends and family and we are able to celebrate these milestones together! I am conscious, however, that we don’t have to wait until momentous occasions occur in order to celebrate. Every day holds a moment worth celebrating.
As we experience the significant occasions, the big, momentous moments, it is easier to remember to thank God. We are filled with happiness, excitement and appreciation, our gratitude toward God almost pours out without a second thought! It is easy to draw strength from these occasions, our faith seldom falters. Sometimes, as we experience day to day life, which may seem at times mundane and rudimentary, we can forget to celebrate what He has done for us. During these times, we must take a moment to pause, observe and reflect. Observe the sun rising in the sky, providing us brilliant light casting down on our wonderful world. Look above you, appreciate the endless wonder of our sky and how it changes day to day. Watch as the leaves are turning colour, floating to the ground, marking the change in season. Gaze up at the stars at night, you might even spot one shooting through the darkness! Take note of a flock of birds, the way they mysteriously move. Watch a spider weave its web. Rest. Reflect. These are the tiny moments, the moments that pass us by. These moments, these small occasions, are equally as important as the momentous occasions. These small moments are important because as Matthew 17 tells us, one who has faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20.
Of course, it is important to celebrate the milestones. But in between these moments, look at the small marvels that God has created and gain strength. Celebrate everything that He has given you.
