“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
A new term. A fresh start. A brand new beginning. Blank workbooks sit waiting on the shelf ready to be filled with content that will lead to new knowledge and understanding. New provocations are displayed at each Investigation area within our classroom, inviting the children to play, explore and discover. I always enjoy the beginning of term. I love seeing the children’s smiling faces as they enter the classroom on the first day, rejuvenated and ready to tackle the term ahead! I believe that in the school setting, we are blessed to have the opportunity to take a breath and rest over the school holidays in order to start fresh and revitalised at the start of a new term. I even enjoy planning and preparing over the school holidays as I feel blessed to have time to effectively plan exciting learning opportunities for my class to experience during the term ahead.
A fresh start can have a hugely positive impact on our overall wellbeing. As I entered the school building on Monday morning after the holidays, I felt cheerful, refreshed and energised. After a holiday, we often gain renewed strength and energy that helps us to navigate our daily lives once we return to reality. I thought, wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could experience those fresh start feelings more often? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was something else that could give us strength and renewed energy, something other than a holiday that could give us the power and strength that we need each day. Where else can we gain our strength? As I thought about this, I came to realise that the answer was obvious. Holidays are wonderful and necessary, but there is something that is able to provide us with strength and renewed energy, something that can give us the power that we need to tackle any obstacle. That something is of course our relationship with God.
When we have faith, when we have a relationship with God, we need not fear what lies ahead. We need not doubt our ability to overcome challenges. We need not question our inner strength. When we feel tired, weak or overwhelmed, and our next holiday or opportunity for a fresh start feels a long way away, we can talk to God. We can ask Him for guidance. We can draw strength from the love that He has for us. We can feel restored, rejuvenated and strengthened through our faith. If we are God’s people and we put our faith and trust in Him, He will strengthen us in our time of need.
“The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29:11
