Dear TLS Campus community,
When was the last time you looked at God’s handiwork? Isn’t it truly awesome? You can see the night sky full of amazing galaxies, where stars seem to shine like diamonds. Or the breathtaking vineyard sunsets that never grow old. Even when stormy days come, filled with dark skies, rain’s cascading down the windows and wind sways the trees like they are dancing, it is a sight to see the wonders of God’s artistic hand.
The Creator of the universe created all that artwork. Our minds are captivated at the wonders of God’s creation. Flowers bounce back after torrents of rain. Birds even sit in the trees as if to watch what is happening around them. Yet in all this beautiful scenery there is something greater.
His greatest masterpiece is you and me. When the Lord created the heavens and the earth, He rested and said all that He made was good. Yet, something was missing – us. So He made man in the image and likeness of Himself. Man and woman were created to have fellowship with God. We weren’t the afterthought in creation. We were the special finishing touches. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10).
In Year 4/5 Schutz the students are learning about how Christians have a responsibility in and for the world, that Christians believe that God has given the world for people’s enjoyment and survival and entrusted people with the care of the world for its survival. This requires a sense of awe, appreciation, foresight and community consciousness so that wise decisions will be made for the good of present and future generations of people and the world.
We started off looking at Psalm 104:10-28 and how God created step by step our amazing world. The students reflected on the beauty of God’s creation and its perfectness. We then started identifying some of the ways that the earth is being mistreated. We have had some amazing discussions about the issues facing the earth and about our responsibility for caring for God’s creation. The students have been very concerned about the way people are creating so much waste and how this is affecting our world! Some student reflections …
Campbell – “People should stop using plastic and start using reusable objects.”
Henry – “I think Aussies should do a better job to help the environment.”
Tom C – “Australia has the 3rd most trash in the world! We should be better. Waste is destroying the environment. Help the world and start using reusable products and items.”
Desiree – “Have you ever realised when you go to the
supermarkets how much produce is being sold in plastic? The thing is that you don’t need to put fresh food in plastic, all you need to do is wash it!” We are continuing our war on waste and you might see some of our messages out in the community soon.
We need to remember the importance of caring for the world that God so loving created for us. We are the most prized possession God has and He left us to care for the world He so lovingly created.
God’s richest blessings,
Year 4/5 teacher.
